Working with the curator of the Auckland Museum, where the original Ice Axe used by Sir Edmund Hillary is displayed, this replica has been reproduced with meticulous attention to detail, including the Ash timber from which the original handle was crafted.
We have chosen to use stainless steel for the head and spikes so that they won’t rust and the limited edition number has been etched into each one.
Each Ice Axe has been personally signed by the late Sir Edmund Hillary.
The Ice Axe has been encased utilising a sustainable timber under glass against a background of stunning photographic images and an engraved plaque detailing the date and time of the conquest of Everest. Each Ice Axe is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity personally signed by Dame Catherine Tizard, verifying the authenticity of the signature and the quantity of the release.
